Days 3-5

I am going to keep each of these brief and to the point.

Day 3 - Wednesday:

I woke up early to go for a run with my roommate Mark. However we got lost in the streets of Mexico and began to frantically search for home, because if we were late... we would have missed the bus to work! So we ran. Up and down hills. Until finally we spotted our street and made our way back home just in time for the bus!

Anyways we got to school. Did our work and played a game of soccer which I very much enjoyed and then returned home.

After this, Trevor and I decided to go to the mall and look for some headphones. I was unsuccessful.. and in my grief I purchased some tacos.

The night was very simple and calm.

Day 4 - Thursday:

I woke up early again, but no one else was up... and I didn't have a key so I forced to stay inside haha.

Anyways we went to work where I checked my email and saw two people had tweeted me telling me the Vatican II church was in heresy. I thought this was very interesting. I began to do reading on the subject. This extended until the next day.

Anyways after work, we went home and I studied on the heresies and the concepts of ecumenism. That night, I also went grocery shopping with Tony to get pizza and beer. That was a pretty nice meal. Louis, from Spain, made a toast to an imaginary character named Charley... Charley needed our help apparently.

Day 5 - Friday

Work. Work. Work. Organized the library a little bit, replied to the Sedevacantists.

Late I played soccer with a couple guys.

We then went to Wal Mart for groceries for the week. And once again the headphones I need were not there...

After I went to mass and confession at St. Josemaria's with Tony and Mark. And before that I was able to have an awesome conversation with Tony about Opus Dei.

We had a nice dinner that night and made another toast to Charley, and then watched We Were Soldiers.

It was a late night.

well that is the short of it!
Hopefully I'll be able to give more detailed accounts this week.
God Bless.

Getting Acclimated - Day Dos

Day 2...

My watch alarm went off at 6:05 am and I did not get out of bed. Instead I picked up my laptop and began to check some emails and update my website (The Society of Sts. Peter & Andrew). However, today was a tad frustrating as there was a glitch in the site which I was unable to over come until later this day. Despite that I continued to work on it and at 6:20am my iPad alarm went off blasting "Soul Wars" by AWOLNATION. Now I was definitely awake and decided to take a shower. Side Note: I was able to figure out the shower handles very quickly which pleased me very much... it is the little things in life.

After my shower I put on some gym clothes and began to do some morning push ups, followed by going outside and jumping some rope. Let me tell you mis amigos this is where the altitude hit me. I was panting and pretty close to dying... not really, but it wasn't fun. Hopefully I get used to this polluted air soon.

From here I proceeded to the kitchen to get some water and then I took 6 pills: 1 for Vitamin C, 3 for Calcium, and 2 pills of Cod Liver Oil... yummy. I choked on one of the Cod Liver Oil pills and was coughing for about forty five minutes... not very fun.

Anyways at 7:20 I boarded the bus with my house-mates to head for the school, and went straight into a classroom where Roberto, the headmaster, gave a lecture on being a teacher and other such thoughts entirely in Spanish. Oh, and it lasted for two hours. Thankfully I was able to understand a good amount, but I am still tremendously far from being fluent. Following this talk I scheduled an appointment with Rafael (teacher/board of directors) to discuss what I must do to organize the schools library and create their reading programing, and then I went to lunch. The cafeteria served a salsa soup like substance with chips softened inside, it was covered with two types of cheese and some other sauce thing. This was accompanied by beans, miscellaneous fruit and orange/mango juice. It was tasty.

I made may way to the library after lunch and relaxed there for a bit, and checked out some of the books. Soon we all left back home and I continued my work on my site and this blog. This went on for a while, but was broken when Tony invited me to go for a walk around the neighborhood to see what it was like. And let me tell you, I live in a very nice place in Mexico.

Upon our return, I began to listen to some talks on Jesus Christ and whether or not His story is historically probable. The conclusion of all the talks were negative to Christianity, very interesting though. I continued to listen to these talks and began to make dinner. Second day here and it is my day to cook! And so cook... I tried to do... and succeeded.

I made a salad with lettuce, onion, tomato, green pepper, mozzarella cheese, croutons with a dressing I made from olive oil, balsamic vinegar and mashed garlic. As for the main course I boiled pasta, and in a different pan I put in some olive oil, garlic, onion and then cooked up some chicken breasts in this mix. I eventually added some tomato sauce to the chicken and when it was all cooked I poured it onto the pasta. The meal got four and half stars from Tony, and the salad was called "Incredible" by Louis.

This was a nice end to my second day in Mexico.

I hope everything is well with you dear reader.

God Bless.

Yours in Christ,
D.V.C.

The First Day

Dear Friends & Family,

Allow me to first thank you for taking the time out of your day to sit down and read the words which I have written for you and for myself.

I hope this finds you well, and I plan to write as often as I can in order to give you the best re-capping of my time down here in Mexico City, Mexico.

I intend to one day look back upon this log and re-kindle the emotions and memories obtained from living as a Librarian at Northridge School Mexico, to re-learn the lessons that I will learn and in addition it is my wish that you also be able to get a feel for what life is like down here.

Day1:

I woke up at 4:56 am EST... a series of events occurred and behold I had arrived at the airport with my parents and my girlfriend.  We parked and made our way into the building. Here we checked my bags and here we said our goodbyes. I must admit tears welled up in my eyes and some even streaked down my cheek. The plane ride was sad, so sad I had to drown my sorrows in the Sour Patch Kids my lovely lady (girlfriend) got for me just a couple days earlier. I sit here writing this and I realize even though it has not even been 24 hours I already miss my family, my friends, and Claire so much, and this is only the beginning. I know I will continue to miss them as I do now.

Anyways, I arrived safely and after going through the foreigners entrance I found my luggage. I proceeded to exit where I saw a man holding a sign saying "Dominique: NSM" meaning Dominic (how my name is meant to be spelt) and NSM meaning Northridge School Mexico.

I went up to this man to say hello, but he didn't speak any English. Despite that we had a polite greeting and we hailed a cab and headed for the school. As I rode in the back seat of the cab I took some videos. Sadly they didn't turn out to be very interesting, but despite that I will eventually share this work of cinematic art with you soon.

When I arrived at the school, no one was to be seen. I couldn't find anyone I knew so I just put my luggage down, attempted to call Claire... never got through and eventually resolved to playing Chess against a computer. However, once I started this Tony (one of my roommates) spotted, and shortly after I met four of my six roommates (two will be arriving later this month). We all went out to lunch, hiking up a hill to get to this nice little cafe, and if I can recall it was called something to the effect of "KFE". Here I had a Coke and a Club Sandwich, and talked to the other teachers and roommates about tv shows, hobbies and families. In particular, Breaking Bad seemed to be a very good ice breaker. Oh and by the way the sandwich was tasty.

But nevermind that, after lunch we went back to the school where we boarded a yellow bus and headed to our home, my new home. I unpacked all of my belongings and immediately began to contact my mother and Claire. It was so great to talk to both of them, with this glorious inter-web the year will not be nearly as hard as it would have been without this option of near constant communication. Thank you God for this blessing.

Later this night, we had a delicious meal of spicy nachos and a corn salad. Afterwards we had a house meeting where we discussed the rules. We ended the night with pitching in to clean the kitchen.

In the end today was a pretty straight forward day. A little sad, but there is a bright horizon no doubt.

God Bless.
DVC

P.S.
I love you Mom, Dad, Elijah, Zach, Ariana, Mac, Jude and Claire. And all you friends and family.
